Lynette Thomas
Scholarship
A scholarship that honors an educational leader and champion of scholarship, and support emerging leaders.
About the Lynette Thomas Scholarship
Tau Delta Zeta's first Triumphant Soror, Lynette Thomas, was an English teacher in Prince George’s County, Maryland's public high schools for more than a decade. Lynette Thomas taught and inspired hundreds of young minds at Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School, Frederick Douglass High School as well as Laurel High School. She loved teaching and valued the relationships with her students. With the approval of her family, Tau Delta Zeta Chapter named this scholarship in her honor.
In its early years, the Chapter awarded a $500 book scholarship, recognizing that even the cost of textbooks can present a significant barrier for students and families. This initial investment reflected the commitment to meeting immediate needs while encouraging academic persistence and achievement.
Recognizing the growing financial demands placed on students, including tuition, fees, technology, and other essential resources, the Chapter and Foundation has expanded this scholarship to provide increased financial support.
In memoriam, this scholarship continues Triumphant Soror Lynette Thomas' legacy of scholarship and education, and support of young males within Prince George’s County, MD.
